Summer Language Day Camp for High School Students at Lewis University

In June 2009, Lewis University will be conducting a two-week Summer Language Day Camp for Will County high school students funded by the STARTALK National Security Grant.

Instruction in two critical languages - Chinese or Arabic - will be free for those admitted to the program. 24 high school students, rising 11th and 12th graders, will be accepted to the camp. Those who successfully complete the course will receive 3 university transferable credits in the respective languages.

High school students -- rising 11th, and 12th graders -- will acquire basic communicative skills in Arabic or Chinese as well as cultural awareness from experienced native language teachers in lively, interactive, and task-based classes and through extra-curricular activities.

Dates and Location

  • June 14th - June 27th , Monday through Friday, from 9:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. (lunch will be provided)
  • Classes will meet on the Lewis University Campus in Romeoville

Application

  • Complete the online application
  • Please print out the Transcript Release Form. Give it to your school principal or guidance counselor at your school and ask this person to enclose a transcript of your work through the most recent term in a sealed envelope labeled with your full name. Please instruct them to sign their name over the sealed flap.
  • Please print out the Recommendation Form and ask your language teacher to complete it on your behalf. Also, instruct your reference to sign her or his name over the sealed flap. Ask your reference to return the completed form to you in a sealed envelope as soon as possible to:
