Announcing Lewis University's Celebration of Scholarship
Lewis University is proud to announce the 2012 Celebration of Scholarship. This will be an outstanding opportunity for Lewis undergraduate and graduate students, faculty, staff, and recent graduates to present evidence of their scholarship in a community setting. Participants will present their work as part of a concurrent session, a poster session, as a performance, or as part of a visual arts exhibit. The goal of this event is to recognize and to celebrate the vibrancy of scholarship and creativity that exists on our campus.
The event will be held on Thursday, April 19, 2012, from 12pm to 8pm, in a number of locations on campus. The day will begin with a keynote presentation by Dr. Eric Isaacs, Director of Argonne National Laboratory. Posters of student and faculty projects will be on continuous display throughout the event, with poster presenters in attendance at specific times to answer questions and field comments. Concurrent presentations will take place in classrooms, where presenters will speak about their work and interact with the audience. Work in the performing and visual arts will also be on display at various campus locations. The campus will truly be abuzz with innovation and creativity.
Many of you have never had an opportunity to present your work to the public before, while others of you have made several such presentations. On this site, you will find helpful tips for presenting scholarly works of all kinds. Even if you haven't presented at an event like this before, you'll find plenty of guidance here. Resources explaining the process will be added over time to help you propose, produce, and present your work.
The first step in the process, of course, is to decide whether you should participate in the Celebration of Scholarship event. The "Should You Participate?" section of this site should help you answer that question. If you decide to participate, the next step is to title your work and prepare an abstract that describes it. The "Plan Your Abstract" section of this site provides some helpful guidance for this task. Then, register for the event by submitting your abstract and background information in the "Apply" section.
This is an outstanding opportunity for you to demonstrate your work and talents as part of a truly special event in the history of Lewis.
